    “Caño Cristales: A beautiful place”

Caño Cristales is an amazing place where nature puts on one of her best shows by playing with the color of the water in the rivers. Highly recommended for nature lovers who want to enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of the surrounding landscape. The people there are kind and very hospitable to local and foreign tourists alike.

“One of the most beautiful places in the world”

The conservation efforts of the La Macarena National Park are impressive, allowing guests to fully enjoy the nature found there. All visitors must be led by a tour guide after covering the 13 km/8 miles from the town of La Macarena. This distance is covered by boat, 4x4s, and walking, allowing one to slowly descend into this paradise.
Once in the park, the presence of the Macarenia, an aquatic plant with red leaves, and the natural environment featuring plants, ancient rocks, and crystal clear waters shows nature at the peak of her splendor.
One can only hope that this place will remain as pure and enjoyable as it is in 2014. The people in the town live off of tourism to this park, among other activities, providing hotels and dining options that are simple but good. They also provide the services and guides for the tour. The money made from the park stays in the town, allowing the people there to earn a decent living.
A trip that is not to be missed. Plan in advance because the number of visitors at each site is calculated very carefully.

“A place you have to visit at least once in your life”

This destination may not be very well known, but it is definitely one of the most beautiful destinations in Colombia.
Located in the La Macarena mountain range, it is surrounded by breathtaking nature that has largely remained untouched by man.
Direct flights arrive from Villavicencio, Bogotá, and Medellín.
Be aware that the accommodation options are far from luxurious and come with a few limitations. There is no internet access and very limited cell phone coverage, but these are part of the site’s charm. The idea is to disconnect from the stress of everyday life and connect with nature through the world’s most beautiful river.
La Macarena was an area heavily affected by the armed conflict in Colombia, but it is now a protected area, meaning that it is completely safe to travel there. There’s even a Colombian army base nearby.
It’s a small town, but there are pharmacies, grocery stores, and clothes stores where you can easily find anything you might need for the trip while there.
The food is also rather simple but flavorful, and everyone provides excellent service to the tourists.
As for the river, there are various sections that visitors get to see. It takes approximately 8 hours to reach Caño Cristales, with a long walk required for part of the distance, but it’s completely worth it. Both the journey to get there and the destination are absolutely gorgeous.
There are also other sites that are very beautiful as well and only a short walk away such as Caño Cristalitos. These are a good option if you have some extra days.
Recommendations: take comfortable clothes that can get dirty and wet, comfortable shoes as well for crossing streams, a hat to shield you from the sun, and water. Once there, you’ll be assigned a local guide who will accompany you during the entire tour, and you’ll also be provided with lunch.
The river is very beautiful and without a doubt 100% recommended.
